 Cleaning sprouters

CLEAN SPROUTERS = HAPPY SPROUTS

Cleaning your sprouting device - sprouter -  is important,
for your sprouts to thrive as sprouts need
a clean environment to grow well.

SPROUT BOWL

Have you made your own sprout bowl of a porcelain bowl
and a piece of organic linen fabrics?

If so you can clean it by washing it in very hot water,
dish washing soap and a clean sponge. The fabric
can be cleaned by pouring boiling water over it
or you can cook it like a sprout bag.

SPROUT JAR

Do you have a GEO Sprout jar or a homemade version?

It may be tempting to put them in the dishwasher.
But some dishwashing detergents leave a film on the
glass surfaces. A film sprouts seldom tolerate.
So I recommend you clean your sprout jar by
hand in hot water, dish washing soap
and a clean dish sponge.

SPROUT BAG

Do you have a SproutMan Sproutbag or have you made
your own sprout bag out of hemp or linen fabrics?

To clean them you should know sprout bags do not tolerate
soap. It dries out the fibers. Therefore, you can only clean
your sprout bag by removing the sprout residues and wring
the bag in clean, warm water. Thorough cleaning is done by
boiling the bag in a pot in 2-4 minutes in clean water.

SPROUT TRAYS OF PLASTIC

Do you have a BergsBioSalad, a GEO Sprouter,
Easy Sprout Sprouter or another plastic sprouter?

Cleaning after use consists of hot water, a clean soft
brush or sponge and ordinary dishwashing soap.

Thorough cleaning may consist of a 15 minute bath in
strongly water-diluted hydrogen peroxide at a max strengh
of 0,3%. Hydrogen peroxide oxidizes and removes
all biological material from your sprout trays.

Hydrogen peroxide does not damage the environment,
but not all containers tolerate the treatment. So test the
method on your sprouter before you put it into the water,
and only use the method 3-4 times a year.

SPROUT TRAYS OF CLAY

Do you have a GEO Terracotta tower or aother
unglazed/raw terracotta sprouter?

Sprouters in raw baked clay, terracotta, should be
cleaned in boiling water. This is because the open clay
material take soap in like a sponge which it subsequently
submit to the sprouts during cultivation.

If you do not you think the trays are cleaned using boiling
water, you can put it in the ordinary oven at 200 °F
for 20 minutes. Then all bacteria will be gone.

AUTOMATIC SPROUTERS

Do you have a Fresh Life or an Easy Green?

Cleaning the automatic containers should always
follow the manufacturer's instructions.
